REFEREES REVEAL WHO THEY SUPPORT.

beaton is the new Mcluskey now we have alleged threats and the ridiculous pantomime at ayr yesterday more chance nixon was innocent of watergate.
If he was at the mercy of irrate supporters and to the extent that threats were in used and as forced him to have protection, why not just give him a day off until its sorted, oh thats right then the story would be dead in the water, nothing like bleeding a story dry for the media.

With all the data analysis that goes on in sport, a list of errors by referees should be catalogued.

Segregated into critical mistakes and errors

Thats way you could sift through data to see which teams got the worst errors versus most lenient refereeing against them and see if its consistent over time.

Also referee specific to see if they have any trends that make them unsuitable for certain matches. I think unconscious bias has a huge part to play in the psychology of refereeing.

Take me for instance if I was a ref I would be trying my best to be fair. But I probably have a degree of bias even when im trying to be fair.

Now that unconcious biad might be very high in people who have been immersed in a specific culture. Throw into the melting pots the fact that Rangers and Sevco probably have a higher degree of sympathy form other club supporters as well as having the biggest demographic of overt support due to the long standing cultural bias in Scotland, then I think the statistics would show that over time, Celtic gets more honest mistakes against them and Sevco get more honest mistakes for them than any other team in the country.

This may actaully be the same in all countries with few numbers of clubs dominating the support base.

A better system should be that all top league referees should be eufa grade and drawn out of the hat each season to become referee in certain country for say 4 year spells at time.

That way any unconscious bias in minimised and then the stats would highlight the rotten refs the ones who seem to have certain tendecies and those who have outright issues with certain teams.

If it all irons itself out over a season then the stats would support that.

I genuinely beleive these ststas must be collected by somebody presently but perhaps they are never revealed because a bent system is easier to manipulate.

I get the sentiment but this would need to be realistically something kept in house, again, if fans had access to this they’d spin it constantly and we’d see more abuse directed at refs than currently.

I like the idea of other refs coming in, eliminating bias but surely if they then have to work in different countries and uplift their life, a pay rise would be expected.

For me the biggest issue is they should be culpable, if that’s by stricter policing by the SFA, punishment for their mistakes or repeated mistakes etc. Human error will always be part of the game, it has to be accepted if from the refs point of view and not 100x replays we say if their split second decision is understandable.

However, if it’s plain shite refs or inconsistent rule play they should face consequences.

I think a better idea would be to publish the type of analysis of referees’ performances that are applied to players these days See for example the interesting defensive effectiveness chart for Celtic players posted on another thread A referee analysis could include general stuff like distance covered and could also have fouls, penalties, cards issued, both numbers and the clubs involved A picture would soon build up and it could be used as an appraisal tool and also as deterrent against bias

Refs will not reveal and the SFA will not reveal alliegances for any particular they supported growing up, as if this makes it a secret that provides transparency and protects refs from abuse, they never thought this through, refs just go out and advertise their alliegances.
