Transfer Rumours

To prevent Jota from accepting Celtic's proposal, Benfica proposed a contract renewal to Jota with a significant salary increase.

At the moment, the decision is on Jota's side.
No real surprises kelly as would have expected benfica to try and redeem themselves after there fuck up.
I personally can't see us having Jota beyond this season, so think this might turn into a money circus with us and benfica trying to both gain from a possible transfer in the summer imo.
If we can get the deal down before February great, if not then hope Jota remains focused until the end of the season and see what happens then, even though I doubt Ange will be making to many plans for his long term future with us sadly

If he does get offered the chance to go back and have a chance then tbh I don't blame the boy it's his club but he's really enjoying himself here and being here ur closer to the EPL so he's kinda higher profile quicker than he thought so maybe he signs with us knowing he will.leave after a year for england

You would need to be nuts to choose Middlesbrough over Celtic ...id maybe see why if it was a top EPL side but Middlesbrough? No chance man!Prove yourself at Celtic and he'll get a better contract further down the line ..and the possibility of CL football.
Put it this way say juve offered you £5k a week and lecce offered you £14k a week, would you sign for Juve

I think Jota has already shown that he would do well in the EPL and plenty would love to get his services ASAP.
Was never going to happen this window, and still hope we can keep hold of him but fear the bigger offers coming his way are going to be very hard to refuse imo.
Money speaks to loudly in the modern game and we still remain outside that bracket still and until CL guaranteed money can be achieved every year, players with the ability of Jota will continue to pass through the club.
Still hoping that the success he gets from this season may sway his mind and give him the hunger for more, yet will live in hope until he signs the dotted line and enjoy what he has bought to the club thus far and gets rewarded with the success his play deserves with us

Filip Benković has left Leicester City, after the Club and the player mutually agreed to cancel the remaining term of his contract.
Still has injury doubts, looked a quality player when he was here, rumoured to be in Italy talking to Udinese
Should we not be showing an interest in the free agent, only need to find the wages
When he was fit and playing regularly was the best centre half in the SPFL, strolled it up here 👍

Don't think it's all about money glasbhoy even if them figures were true, as he would have gained big bonuses upon success surely.
So if he really wants the glamour money within the EPL which is possibly his main goal, then imo he's gone about it in the wrong manner, much as Ryan Christie has without any guarantees of getting there goals, and turning down the offer of making a bigger and better profile for themselves by choosing us and proving there worth and been able to handle the demands that we provide similar to them within the EPL

Hes been superb and clubs down there obviously keep an eye on our team I think him coming here has accelerated it a bit I'd be very surprised tbh if he was still with us next year even if we did sign him up the now maybe the club know this and that's why they want to do it the now easily double our money on him fuck knows John but he been an absolute joy to watch for me the first jinkylike winger we've had for donkeys years

He might think he's got a better chance of regular first team football at Middlesbrough

Possibly has glasbhoy, but says a lot about his character if he wasn't prepared to fight for his position within the team and then proving himself good enough to keep hold of it, not the type of player we should be chasing imo if that's his attitude
Exactly, get someone who actually wants to be here. There's plenty of players out there that would love to play for the hoops

I personally believe that we have already enough players within our squad to deliver the league title and complete the treble this season, so any new additions now will be with next season in mind imo, so still not that easy to find such players mid season still.
So not one bit bothered weather we get anyone else in at this stage and don't think we remain desperate to either.

I am also Deadner as he looked a potential talent and more so that Ange knew of the potential and for what role he would have liked him to play for the club.
With that on offer and the lad has turned his back upon it, then the focus turns to the player himself and if he really thinks boro is a better move, then I would question his character and quite confident that we are far better off without the likes again imo
We are still in the process of getting rid of those who arent cutting it or wantaway from the club, I would be stunned if Ange will go down that route but he wont I'm certain of it. Mcgree has the chance to play on the biggest stage them all but would rather have the money. Not the type of player we are looking for though ( I dont believe this will happen) he could still sign but money talks and the championships clubs who have the parachute funds on top of 100 million for taking part and finishing last will last them for a good while. We dont need players whose heads are turned by cash the championship and possibly promotion to the EPL though I cannot see that happening for boro vs a 2 horse race for automatic champions league entry. If you're an ambitious player then it's a no brainer as he could show well in the champions league leading to a bigger club than boro showing interest, have a feeling his agents are telling him go for the money as that suits them hunky dory

It appears that Boro also offered more to his parent club (£2.5m rising to £5m with achievable add-ons rather than the £2m we offered), so there may be pressure from them as well.

I read his £14K/week would be £20K/week if bonuses were included - this is a stupid amount of money for clubs to be paying such inexperienced youngsters so no wonder so many Championship clubs are in financial trouble chasing the big bucks of the EPL! Mind you, I'd also say our £5K/week offer is far too high if you compare it to what people in the "real world" earn (but in the end that is irrelevant).

Aye its ruined so many young footballers getting all that cash so young all the next best things who've disappeared from the game after getting they're big move too young they get lost they probably think they will always earn that amount and stop working at it the epl has ruined a huge amount of youngsters I think

I read recently the EPL are going to do away with the 'parachute' payment system for relegated clubs. A good thing if you ask me. When the Championship playoff game is dubbed 'the richest game in football', theres something wrong.
Having said that, the wages in the EPL are completely nuts when some footballers earn more in a week than a doctor does in a year, madness.

He's only gotta love us for wot?another 6 months?then he could saddle up&ride out&we'd all be winners...

Wonder if the Columbian flute player over at the wifebeaters is getting twitchy when he sees a so so player like Woods cop a £25million move to the Geordies?Gotta be a £40million figure on his head now, will Kingy be wanting his cash back rapido?

The glib and shameless liar has been paid back with a big chunk of interest.....it’s the value of his shares in Sevco he’s trying to protect, or better still flog off ASAP.....as they keep getting devalued every time they have another share issue...
