James McCarthy

Mccarthy was as shite as the rest of the team on Sunday. It was a team effort. But remember something. We don't see quarter of the shite that he will take or is already taking in the "best wee country in the world"....I'd imagine he's had a fair few fenian bastard and traitor messages already. There is already articles in the MSM about how he cant cut it at Celtic....after 1 fucking game!!! What he doesn't need is our own fans turning on him and giving everyone else in the country ammo to attack him. He will suffer more than most if we allow the media to get on his back. So fucking support him and be happy that he's with us....and give the guy a chance.

Really don't understand this whole Mccarthy issue as there is no issue worthy of talking about imo.
In the current set up of the team, we have Mccarthy, CalMac, Soro and Shaw, all looking to play the 1 position and all 4 totally different players in there own right.
Mccarthy may well struggle harder to adapting to the position more used as a playmaker than a DM.
Yet he would be the strongest man out of the 4, when we have to play without the ball still in the proper role for the DM.
Is there such a role for such a player within the squad, you better believe there is, especially in the bigger games when we aren't going to be having 80%possession and will show his value to us especially in the European matches when his fitness improves.
Also gives us the opportunity to change formation of going to a 4 in midfield, one Mccarthy would be far more use to.
Still very early days in his celtic career and also remember who would we still rather have Mccarthy or Davies, no need to answer that one 😜

I think McCarthy will come good......I can't blame folk for being wary of him...especially after some of the 'Celtic minded', players who always wanted to play for us, but were past their best scenario.....We all know who they are............And now Duffy is back playing down south, he appears to be playing real good....man of the match on a few occasions.....What bugs me is.......Imagine if he had played at his best for us......That would be a 'great' signing........But he never....but Why.......

Id say Brighton suits the big fella ,Celtic too big a club for him and the pressure might have been too much for him.Another example is Pukki at Norwich ,pish for us but goes down there and hes done ok .Being expected to win every game is too much for some players and every mistake you make scrutinised by supporters and the media .I dont think some players realise how big a club Celtic is until they walk through the doors .

Also think we don’t take into account this fuckin horrible pandemic,,players joining clubs usually get to blend in slowly, meet the team play bit a golf ,few bevvies whatever,,but guys like big Duffy lost his dad then this shit thing,,unable to train properly way the hole squad??got to be mitigating surley??

Know what youre saying mate but some of his defending was comical and look at the wage he was picking up.You know yourself you dont get much time at Celtic ,sink or swim n big Duffy just didnae cut it.

He was also taking advice from our "defensive" coaches, who appear to still be at the club. That obviously didn't help the big man.

I think lennono, in general as supporters we don't tend to take into account the mental effect that can be placed upon a player, due to the money they are on.
Big duffy came to us carrying to much baggage mentally with the death of his father, a far bigger wage than the best part of the squad which possibly didn't go down to well, and let's not forget the level of abuse he would have been subjected to, yet I believe the romance of the 10iar to honour his father overruled the problems that lay in waiting.
Would have been very isolated to try and overcome the problems also, especially when the supporters turned and became the scapegoat.
An awful lot of pressure to be carrying and no surprises he didn't go on the ill fated trip to dubai, yet didn't let us down when no-one was available after the trip.
Sometimes we forget about just how much a player can be suffering with the demands and pressure that is expected for them to be able to handle and say as a package was to much for duffy.
If it thought myself something, then I wouldn't entertain the abuse our players are subjected to, and no worse than from ourselves as the scum are only to happy to apply that, and hoping Mccarthy doesn't become the next victim either.

I not sure how fit we will be able get him but he will definitely play a part if he keeps off the treatment table.

I had a glance back at stats and compared them to Rogic. Someone who we consider as picking up a fair few niggles and struggling to play 90mins.

Had a quick rake through both of their stats on transfermarkt. I know McCarthy has had more than his fair share of injuries and both players play different roles and will get taken off or brought on for different reasons tactically.....anyway.

This includes cups, Europe, int and u23 bounce games for McCarthy to get his fitness up probably. Taken from 16/17 till now. I counted games where they played 80mins +.

JMcC. TR.

(16/17) 5, 17. (17/18) 1, 18. (19/20) 15, 9. (20/21) 6, 8. (21/22) 0, 1. Total 27, 53

Remember these numbers total from just over 5years. McCarthy has put in about 5.5games at 80min + average a season, Tam about 10.5.

We will heavily depend on Calmac again this year. Longer term I would like to see us invest in a soild CM that can rack up the mins week in week out. For now hopefully he can get his fitness and stamina levels up so he is good to step in when needed.

Awe a agree way that mate,,some horrendous defending, but some cunts just Pelter guys without a thot for circumstances, probably no a popular one but a also think big Edouard was also affected way covid restrictions..

For me it was simply wrong player in the wrong team. He simply isn't suited to playing in a team that's built to attack. As an anchor man in a defensive team he's never going to be exposed the way he was with us. Good luck to the big guy

Still believe we bought a pig in a poke hes never going to make a team player his passing skill has nothing to do with his injury's as I have stated before he is as slow as a week in jail , and any ability he had else were has gone . if your waiting on some sort of improvement you will. Wait the 4 years

So he never had a good game tonight?
And what about his passing skills, lovely ball for jota's goal

I think I will start a knee-jerk thread proclaiming McCarthy as our greatest ever signing seeing as he laid on such a beautiful pass to set up the wonderful opening goal.

Or alternatively I might go old school and actually give the guy a chance to settle into a new team, recover from injury, recover from Covid, get his fitness levels up and play some games over an extended period of time before deciding if he has been a success and contributed positively to some success!
